Republican Members of Congress are infuriated by the Democrats’ announcement that they will pursue former steps towards impeachment.

One of the first to express concern was the leading Republican in the House Ways and Means Committee.

Congressman Kevin Brady (R-TX) made the following statement after Speaker Pelosi announced a controversial impeachment inquiry of President Trump opposed by most U.S. voters:

“Democrats have a simple message for the American people: You don’t matter. Our hatred for the President crushes your desire for Congress to work together to solve real problems.

“Congressman Al Green of Houston sadly spilled the truth when he said, ‘I’m concerned if we don’t impeach this president, he will get re-elected.’ This reveals that Democrats are only creating a constitutional crisis for pure political gain.”

Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-ND) released this statement on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s announcement on impeachment:

“Speaker Pelosi’s statement makes a good headline, but it changes nothing. Formal impeachment can only start after receiving 218 votes on the floor of the U.S. house. Instead of working to pass USMCA, fix our broken immigration system, and reduce drug prices, House Democrats continue to delegitimize a duly elected President and pass partisan bills that have no chance of becoming law.”

Armstrong is serving his first term, represents the state of North Dakota in the U.S. House of Representatives. He sits on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Oversight and Reform Committee.

Congressman Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA), also of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement on Democrats’ formal impeachment inquiry: “This is a sad day for our democracy. Speaker Pelosi’s decision to begin a formal impeachment inquiry based on secondhand allegations shows just how desperate the Democrats are to undo the will of the American people. President Trump has agreed to release the unredacted transcript of his phone call with the president of Ukraine and the House Intelligence Committee has yet to hold any hearings on this matter. Calling for impeachment before learning the facts sets a dangerous precedent and shows that once again, House Democrats are putting political theatre before the needs of the American people.”

Congresswoman Debbie Lesko (R-AZ), another member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement:

“For three years, Democrats have been obsessed with taking down President Donald Trump. When their Russian collusion theory did not work, they switched to obstruction of justice. When the Judiciary Committee dragged Special Counsel Mueller in to testify, that theory failed too. Now they are using unverified claims from unknown sources without any evidence to formally launch their impeachment inquiry. Democrats will stop at nothing to undermine the President of the United States.

“Pursuing a baseless impeachment inquiry will backfire on Speaker Pelosi and her Democratic Caucus. This path makes it even easier for President Trump to be reelected and for Republicans to win back the House in 2020.”

Wyoming Congresswoman and House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) released the following statement after Speaker Pelosi announced that the House will launch a formal impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump:

“As Members of Congress, we have a solemn obligation to defend the Constitution. Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats have cast aside this obligation in order to launch partisan impeachment efforts against President Trump.

“For months, House Democrats have careened from justification to justification, looking for any excuse to begin impeachment proceedings. Since the President was sworn in, the Democrats have repeatedly attempted to overturn the results of the election and discard the votes of 63 million Americans who voted for President Trump.

“Now, Speaker Pelosi is walking away from even the pretense of the necessity of evidence. She has announced a formal impeachment inquiry of the President of the United States based on news reports of a phone call and a whistleblower. The Speaker and House Democrats have lost all credibility and, most tragically, have abdicated their duty to the Constitution and to the American people.”

The House Republican Conference Chairman is the third highest ranking Republican in the House.
