Congressman Brady visits Walker County after HarveyKBTXBy Amber Treybig | Posted: Fri 10:58 PM, Sep 01, 2017 WALKER COUNTY, Tex. (KBTX)- On Friday, Walker County leaders welcomed Congressman Kevin Brady. He got an up close look at the Harvey operations, the storm shelter and damaged areas. "A lot of culverts and bridges that took water that have never taken water before," explained Walker County Commissioner Bill Daugette. "Walker County has sheltered a lot of people we've had our share of the water, and he is here to see that to help insure that we get declared a federal disaster for FEMA funds which we need badly," said Danny Pierce, Walker County Judge. Friday afternoon after Brady's visit, Walker County was added to the Federal Disaster Declaration. "It's going to be expensive to rebuild, we know it's going to be hard for families and so we got to keep working together," said Congressman Brady. "It peeled back asphalt, washed away culverts, deposited a football field size chunk of sand in a neighborhood, and damaged lots of homes and mobile homes," added Daugette. After seeing the damage for himself, Congressman Brady has one goal in sight. "All the damage you've seen from the roads and bridges and all that we want to make sure that doesn't land on our local tax payers." Walker County leaders say they will continue housing those in need and cleaning up the mess Harvey has made. "We've been working for the last week to get the roads open and the culverts cleaned out and life back to normal as best as we can," said Daugette. CLICK HERE to watch the KBTX story. |
